Racial Harmony Day 2006, Friday 21 July 2006.

The results of the Powerpoint Competition are finally out...
Special thanks to all classes who have keenly contested in the RHD Powerpoint Competition 06.

The concert and celebrations were very well organized owing much to the diligence of teachers and students involved. Kudos to everyone. Details on celebrations will be out in the next West Spring Newsletter. Grab a copy.

Saturday Night Splitter,
Karate Claw From the East,
Tiger Claw Dragon Scratch,
Double Heart Piercer,
Heaven Can Wait,
Leaping Tiger Rising Earth,
"I-Come-In-Peace",
BuddhaPalm Spear.

Striking for a group photo - the West Spring-Hwa Chong Dikir Barat Contingent were all jubilant about the day's presentations.

No headbutting took place in this friendly sepaktakraw match between an impromptu West Spring team and Hwa Chong representatives. A match well fought. West Spring won with a 5-points goal difference.

A spectacular perfornance made possible only through effortless racial harmony and lots of after school hours practice. The audience loved it.

They may look innocent and sweet.... but these girls possess the art of the Silat Kompang (a RHD trivia) - a lost form of martial art revolving around hurling the kompang at incredible speeds...

Before I digress... Our Dikir Barat ladies posing outside the Hwa Chong Library... (& blocking librarygoers...)

They say guys in braces have more fun... proven.

She says, "Sorry girls, he's taken....".

He thinks,"See what diligent dikir barat practice & racial harmony can bring... oh WoW Mulan... or was it ....Bulan...".

Simply entitled - A Bouquet of Girls With Mersmerizing White Teeth...

Meanwhile, the Dikir Barat Contingent over at Hwa Chong Institution were spending more quality time getting to know one another... other than taking more pictures...

All smiles here with kompang boys & teachers. (Spot the fake long hair contest).

Kompang boys rocks on...!

Keep It Simple

The following brilliant article was shared by Mrs Evelyn Korr which I think would benefit all of us...

(1) When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out that the pens wouldn't work at zero gravity (Ink won't flow down to the writing surface).

In order to solve this problem, it took them one decade and $12 million.
They developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, in practically any surface including crystal and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degreesC.

And what did Russians do.......................................??
The Russians used Pencil !!!

(2) One of the most memorable case studies on Japanese management was the case of the empty soap box, which happened in one of Japan's biggest cosmetics companies.

The company received a complaint that a consumer had bought a soap box that was empty. Immediately the authorities isolated the problem to the assembly line, which transported all the packaged boxes of soap to the delivery department.

For some reason, one soap box went through the assembly line empty.Management asked its engineers to solve the problem.

Post-haste, the engineers worked hard to devise an X-ray machine with high-resolution monitors manned by two people to watch all the soap boxes that passed through the line to make sure they were not empty.

No doubt, they worked hard and they worked fast but they spent whoopee (exhorbitant) amount to do so.

But when a rank-and-file employee in a small company was posed with the same problem, did not get into complications of X-rays, etc but instead came out with another solution.
He bought a strong industrial electric fan and pointed it at the assembly line.
He switched the fan on, and as each soap box passed the fan, it simply blew the empty boxes out of the line.

Moral of the story:
Keep It Simple. Always look for simple solutions.
Devise the simplest possible solution that solves the problem.

Learn to focus on solutions not on problems.

"If you look at what you do not have in life, you don't have anything"
"If you look at what you have in life, you have everything"

Have a Wonderful Day!
Warmest Regards,
Mrs Evelyn Korr
